Callum Tolhurst-Close is in demand as a musical director, conductor, repetiteur, accompanist and soloist, and has performed across Australia and internationally, including broadcasts on ABC Classic FM and ArtSound Canberra, on commercial recordings and in world premieres of new music.

Callum studied a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and holds several performance diplomas in classical piano. A multi-award-winning Musical Director, Callum's work has been recognised with Canberra Ovation awards for Outstanding Musical Director and Outstanding Orchestra. Highlights as Musical Director include Tick, Tick Boom (ACTHub, 2024), The Boy from Oz (Free-Rain Theatre, 2024), The Little Mermaid (SYMT, 2023), The Sound of Music (Willoughby Theatre Company, 2023) and The Full Monty (Theatre&Co, 2019).

His work as a repetiteur has seen him collaborate with Pacific Opera and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, as well as holding multiple tenured positions as an Organist & Director of Music.

Outside of music, Callum is a respected fundraiser, having worked at leading cultural institutions, including Musica Viva, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the National Portrait Gallery.

He currently serves as a Board Director of Luminescence Chamber Singers, and his debut album ‘From Atop the Hill' was released in July 2024.

Callum joins Canberra Qwire as Musical Director in 2025, having been Qwire's Accompanist in 2024. He is looking forward to sharing music with Qwire, the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond during his tenure.

Hugo Temby

Hugo is a versatile multi-instrumentalist with experience across multiple classical and contemporary genres.

He holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Melbourne Conservatorium, where he studied under leading Australian pianist Geoffrey Tozer and early musician John Griffiths.

Hugo has worked as a chamber musician, composer, producer, and band leader, and is thrilled to become Qwire's accompanist in 2025, having joined the group as a chorister and assistant accompanist in 2024.

James is our head honcho and has been endorsed by the membership to help steer Qwire through the year. James is also the official spokesperson for Qwire and chairs our committee meetings and will make regular announcements at rehearsals.

Our Events Manager is responsible for managing Qwire's participation at public events and logistical arrangements for our concerts which include venue liaison, stage and technical support, budgets and ticketing.
